About Pittsburgh Penguins

The Pittsburgh Penguins, or the Pens, are professional ice hockey teams based out of Pittsburgh. PPG Paints Arena, formerly known as Consol Energy Center, has been their home arena since 2010. It was when the team joined the NHL as a member of the Eastern Conference. The squad played at the Civic Arena just before moving to the Igloo. The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins of the AHL and the Wheeling Nailers of the East Coast Hockey League (ECHL) are currently associated with the Penguins. Since their founding in 1967, the Penguins have won the Stanley Cup a record five times. The team won the Stanley Cup twice, one in 2016 and the other in 2017. It became the first team to accomplish that feat in the salary cap era. The 2022–23 season was historic for the Penguins in numerous ways. Evgeni Malkin played in his 1,000th NHL game on November 23, 2022. He became only the second player in Penguins history to reach that milestone. Soon after, on April 2, 2023, despite missing 18 games that season, teammate Kris Letang also participated in his 1,000th game. Suppose the Washington Capitals and Detroit Red Wings were to lose the following night. In that case, the Pittsburgh Penguins might secure a playoff berth with a victory over the Nashville Predators in April 2024.  But the Red Wings beat the Canadiens in overtime, and the Capitals beat the Flyers to secure the last wild card position; the Penguins were out of the playoffs for a second year.  In July, the Pittsburgh Penguins' President of Hockey Operations and General Manager Kyle Dubas announced the trade that brought Lukas Svejkovsky to the team from the Tampa Bay Lightning: forward Bennett MacArthur in exchange. MacArthur's NHL contract runs through the 2024–25 season and is worth an average of $925,000 annually. Erik Karlsson is one of the fresh acquisitions the Pittsburgh Penguins have included in their lineup during the preseason of 2024. Karlsson has already had a clear influence, especially on the power play, where his presence gives the action a fresh perspective. Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin are still leading the team and offer consistency and experience.  The Penguins have also concentrated on strengthening their defensive performance to compensate for the past season's flaws. Aiming to make a strong run for the playoffs this season, the Penguins mix seasoned leadership with new skills.
