About Ector County Coliseum

The Ector County Coliseum is a multi-purpose arena located in Odessa, Texas, between Dallas and El Paso. It has a seating capacity of 8,000 and was built in 1954. The arena serves as home to the Odessa Jackalopes (North American Hockey League), FC West Texas Rumbleweeds, the biennial Permian Basin International Oil Show, and the Sand Hills Rodeo. Some of the former tenants are Odessa Jackalopes (WPHL/CHL) (1997–2011) and West Texas Roughnecks (IFL/NIFL/LSFL) (2004–2012). The Ector County Coliseum also hosts an important rodeo every January where the animals are kept in a large hall. This large hall is the same area used for group picnics serving as many as 500 people before hockey games. Other events include trade shows, festivals, concerts, conventions, ice shows, motorsports, weddings, anniversaries, and Broadway shows. The Ector County Coliseum was the oldest arena to still be used for CHL games. This was until the Fort Wayne Komets and the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum (their facility) entered the league in 2010. The Coliseum served as the home field to the Odessa/West Texas Roughnecks indoor football team. From 2004, the indoor football team played at the Ector County Coliseum until it folded in 2012. The Ector County Coliseum hosts the Permian Basin International Oil Show every two years. The event brings together a variety of people from every phase of the petroleum industry. From every corner of the world, leaders visit Texas to learn about the latest technology, transact business, and create new business friendships.
