The Long Center for the Performing Arts is a performing arts venue in downtown Austin, Texas. The center was inaugurated for the public on March 28, 2008. The building's architecture was done by Nelsen Partners, Zeidler and Partnership Architects, Fischer Dachs Associates, Jaffe Holden Acoustics, Inc., and Architectural Engineers Collaborative (Structural Engineering). The current seating capacity of the venue is distributed as follows, Debra and Kevin Rollins Studio Theatre 229; City Terrace 2,000; and Michael & Susan Dell Hall 2,442. The Long Center serves as the Austin Symphony Orchestra, Ballet Austin, and Austin Lyric opera's permanent home. The venue hosts other Austin-area performing arts organizations as well. The center has many Austin performance groups designated as Resident Companies. Some of the notable ones are Tapestry Dance, Pollyanna Theatre Company, Austin Shakespeare, and Conspirare. The famous stages and venues that are part of the Long Center for the Performing Arts include Michael and Susan Dell Hall, Debra and Kevin Rollins Studio Theatre, City Terrace and Hartman Concert Park, Kodosky Donor Lounge, West Pincer Terrace & Lounge, and AT&T Education Rooms. In part, the Long Center for the Performing Arts's construction plan was the recycling of the Palmer Auditorium. In hopes of decreasing the venue's environmental pollution, 95% of the construction material was taken from the pre-existing Palmer Auditorium. The material was recycled and incorporated into Phase I of the venue.
