About Mullins Center

Mullins Center is a multi-purpose entertainment center and arena, which is located at 200 Commonwealth Avenue, Amherst, Massachusetts. It is the home venue for UMass Minutemen men's ice hockey, women's basketball, and UMass Minutemen men's basketball. The Center has a seating capacity of 9,493 for basketball and 8,387 for hockey. It was inaugurated on February 4, 1993, with a construction cost of $51 million. The Mullins Center is under the ownership of the University of Massachusetts Amherst and operated by Global Spectrum. The architecture of the venue was designed by Robert Galloway of Cambridge Seven Associates. The Mullins center serves as a concert hall, public skating rink and a center for other occasional ceremonies such as convocations, commencement, family shows, cultural events, conferences, and fine arts productions. Over the years, several musical concerts have been hosted at the venue. The first live performance held at the venue was given by Jesus Christ Superstar. Later on, other famous artists including Elton John, Metallica, Phish, Aerosmith Green Day, Alanis Morissette, Smashing Pumpkins and Black Eyed Peas also performed here. Popular family events that include Barney the Dinosaur Walking Disney's Phineas, Ferb with Dinosaurs, and Doodle bops were also hosted at the venue. In 1995, NCAA Women's Volleyball Championship held at the Center.
