About San Jose Sharks

The San Jose Sharks is an American professional ice hockey team. They are a member of the Pacific Division of National Hockey League’s (NHL) Western Conference. The team is based in San Jose, California. The franchise is under the ownership of San Jose Sports & Entertainment Enterprises. The team played its first two seasons at an indoor arena named Cow Palace in Daly City, California. They moved to their new home, San Jose Arena, for the third season 1993-1994. In this season, the Sharks pulled off the most significant turnaround record of 33–35–16 in the history of NHL. In 1994, they made the playoffs for the first time. The San Jose Sharks home ice is located at the SAP Center which was formerly named the HP Pavillion. It makes sense the Sharks home venue would be named after a technology company since they are in the heart of Silicon Valley. It was founded in 1991 and has won six division titles since 1993 and one President’s Trophy. The members decided to go with the name of sharks inspired by a vast number of sharks in the Pacific Ocean. The San Jose Sharks have a uniform theme of deep pacific teal, black, and burnt orange. The mascot for the team is also a shark named SJ Sharkie. One of the best traditions is Shark’s pre-game entrance scene. The Hockey Hall of Famers inducted from the team includes Ed Belfour, Rob Blake, Igor Larionov, Sergei Makarov, and Teemu Selanne. The San Jose Sharks have won a large number of trophies and awards, including Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy, James Norris Memorial Trophy, Presidents' Trophy, All-Star Game head coach, Art Ross Trophy, Clarence S. Campbell Bowl, Hart Memorial Trophy, Calder Memorial Trophy, and many more. As a result of losses to the Philadelphia Flyers (3-2) and the Seattle Kraken (5-4) in overtime, the Sharks could not advance to the postseason for the seventh year in a row on March 12, 2024.  In June, the team traded defenseman Jake Walman to the Detroit Red Wings for future considerations and a 2024 NHL Draft selection (53rd overall, Tampa Bay's pick).  San Jose Sharks are in a tough season in 2024 as they struggle on offense and defense. That has been difficult for them to find consistency with, and they have lost a few games. Just recently, the San Jose Sharks fell 4-2 to the Arizona Coyotes on December 16, with help from Erik Karlsson and Timo Meier. As rebuilding has been the Shark's focus, younger players have been given more ice time. The team will look to improve depth and performance throughout the season while rebuilding for next season.
