The Pacific Coliseum, commonly known as "The Coliseum" or the "Rink on Renfrew," is an indoor place located at 100 N Renfrew Street, Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. The arena is owned by the City of Vancouver Pacific National Exhibition. The construction of the venue started in 1966, and a total cost of $42.6 million was spent on its development. The Pacific Coliseum was opened to the general public on January 8, 1968. The place went through renovations in the years 1984 and 2007. The 2007 improvements were made to host the 2010 Winter Olympics. The renovations included upgrading of seating, ice surface, and ice plant. The seating capacity of the venue for ice hockey went from 15,038 (1968–1970) to 16,281 (2006–present). The seating capacity for concerts is 17,500. The architecture of the Pacific Coliseum is designed by Phillips, Barratt, Hillier, Jones and Partners W. K. Nope. The venue is mainly known for hosting ice hockey events. Vancouver Giants and Vancouver Canucks of the Western Hockey League (WHL), Vancouver Canucks (National Hockey League), Vancouver Blazers (World Hockey Association) are some of the hockey tenants of the Pacific Coliseum. This venue hosted the fourth match of the Summit Series 1972. Two of the many events of XXI Olympic Winter Games, figure skating and short-track speed skating were also hosted by the Pacific Coliseum from February 12 to 28, 2010. Not only ice hockey events but the building is also known for hosting concerts. The notable performances include the names of Jimi Hendrix Experience Band, Aerosmith, KISS, David Bowie during Serious Moonlight Tour, etc. The Madison Square Garden scene from the movie, Miracle and the dog show scene from Best in Show were filmed in this arena due to its beautiful architecture.
