About Peden Stadium

Peden Stadium is an American football stadium that is located in Athens, Ohio. The venue is exactly situated on the campus of Ohio University, right on the banks of the Hocking River. The stadium broke ground in 1927, and it was officially inaugurated for the public on October 5, 1929. The facility is under the ownership of Ohio University and operated by the same. It has a total seating capacity of 27,000 with a FieldTurf surface. The total construction cost of the project was $185,000. Osborn Engineering Company designed the architecture of the building. The stadium has been serving as a home field to the Ohio Bobcats football team since 1929. It is said to be one of the oldest college football venues for the Mid-American Conference. The stadium is also the 29th oldest college stadium in the US. Peden Stadium has been designated as an official Ohio Historical site at the suggestion of an alumnus, Michael Massa. The stadium was previously named Ohio Stadium. The first game played at the facility was a 14–0 Bobcats victory over archrival Miami University. The venue was given its current name in 1946 when the legendary Ohio football coach Don Peden retired. The stadium underwent some major renovations and expansions in 1986 and 2001. In addition to football games and serving as the home of Ohio Bobcats, the Peden Stadium also hosts a wide variety of other events. It hosted numerous high school state playoff games as well as local high school football games. The facility also served as the home of Ohio's "O Zone" Student Cheering Section, The Bobcat Club, The North End Terrace Club, and "Yell Like Hell," an annual homecoming pep rally.
